Meet Carliann Langley: Yin Yoga Teacher, Meditation Guide, and Founder of Peace Love Yoga UK

Carliann Langley is a devoted yoga teacher and the founder of Peace Love Yoga UK, whose teaching is grounded in stillness, presence, and deep transformation. With over 1,400 hours of training—including advanced studies in Yin Yoga, meditation, yoga philosophy, and trauma-informed approaches—Carliann embodies the spirit of lifelong learning and evolution through yoga.
Her teaching journey began with classical Hatha Yoga (Sivananda in Neyer Dam, India). However, it was through Yin Yoga and the wisdom of meditation that she discovered a more intuitive and healing connection—both within herself and with her students. This shift inspired her to explore therapeutic yoga more deeply, eventually continuing her studies with Yin Yoga Therapy.
Today, Carliann’s classes blend:
Yin Yoga
Meridian theory
Buddhist philosophy
Mindset training
Emotional and nervous system regulation
Mindfulness practices
Her teaching reflects a balance of knowledge and softness, precision and compassion—qualities nurtured through ongoing study, personal practice, and her years of teaching experience.
In Conversation with Carliann Langley
What initially drew you to Yin Yoga, and how has your practice evolved?
“I was first introduced to Yin Yoga during my British Wheel of Yoga teacher training. That first class, led by Paul Wooding, left a lasting impact. While many people find Yin challenging or even boring at first, I remember lying down at the end feeling as though magic was moving through my veins. From that moment, I was hooked.
Since then, Yin Yoga has become an essential part of my life. Physically, it has improved my flexibility more than any yang-style practice. More importantly, it has taught me how to regulate my nervous system, calm my mind, and access a deep sense of inner peace.
That connection to peace inspires me most as a teacher. I often remind students: I haven't given you peace, and Yin hasn’t given it to you either—we’ve simply uncovered the tools to access what was already within you.”
Can you share a pivotal moment that shaped your teaching philosophy?
“Discovering Paul Grilley’s Functional Alignment approach was a major turning point. Traditional yoga often focuses on aesthetics and forcing the body into idealised shapes. This can lead to injury and feelings of inadequacy in students.
I had long dreamed of training with Paul Grilley in person. When the pandemic cancelled my plans to train in California, I completed his online course instead. It was deeply transformative and taught me to respect the diversity of human bodies. Yoga is not about what a pose looks like, but how it feels and whether it supports each individual’s unique structure. That’s where true yoga begins.”
Is there a memorable moment where a student experienced profound healing in your class?
“Healing moments happen every week, and witnessing these transformations is the greatest joy. I see students arrive carrying stress and overwhelm, and after just an hour of Yin Yoga, their entire energy shifts—their faces soften, their breath deepens, and something inside settles. It’s subtle, but deeply powerful.
To facilitate that kind of shift feels like an absolute privilege. I teach from the heart, with sincerity and care. I truly believe I was put on this earth to share Yin Yoga and meditation.”

What can new students expect from your Monday night online Yin Yoga sessions?
“New students can expect a warm, supportive, and inclusive community. My Monday night online Yin Yoga class is open to all ages and abilities. I offer multiple options to suit every body and ensure everyone feels welcome.
These sessions go far beyond stretching. We explore traditional Yin postures, breathwork, meditation, and yoga philosophy, creating a well-rounded practice that nourishes both body and mind. Yin invites us to slow down, listen, and reconnect—something we all need in today’s fast-paced world.”
What advice would you offer to someone just beginning their Yin Yoga journey?
“Be patiently persistent. The world tells us to ‘do more, move faster’, but Yin Yoga gently whispers, ‘slow down, do less’. That shift can feel uncomfortable at first. But learning to slow down, listen inwardly, and nurture yourself with compassion is a skill—and like any skill, it takes time to develop.
Give yourself grace. Trust the process. Show up consistently, even when it feels unfamiliar. The rewards will come.”
What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a Yin Yoga teacher?
“Practice consistently—ideally for at least two years—before stepping into teaching. Yin Yoga is profoundly deep and subtle. The more you understand it somatically, emotionally, and spiritually, the more authentically you can share it. You will need to complete a 200 hour course before additional yin yoga specialist trainings.
Read well-chosen Yin Yoga books, train with great teachers, and immerse yourself in practice. I’ve studied with Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley, Norman Blair, many of the yin greats .And of course with Alex and Manuela of Yin Yoga Therapy in Goa (December 2024). Their trainings never just enrich my teachings, they enrich my life.
Teaching Yin Yoga requires more than a short module in a general yoga course. If your heart is called to this path, go deep. That depth will shine through in your teaching—I promise.”
